Additional Information
*Spelling is a skill that needs to be taught formally. Formal teaching of reliable patterns and rules of spelling enable students to spell 80-85% of words without memorization. Students learn to spell by translating sounds into letters or letter clusters. Only 15% of the English language requires memorization due to irregularities. Spelling knowledge also reinforces patterns for reading, which reinforce fluency and comprehension.
*Students work on and take home consumable Phonics, Fluency and Spelling Notebook that will be completely ultized during this workshop and later provide practice and reference for years to come.
*Students will learn to apply multisensory strategies which will lead them to better decoding, fluency, spelling reading and writing to gain and increase skills and independence in reading.
*Students will learn phonics, decoding skills and strategies with spelling rules to increase vocabulary, fluency (speed, accuracy and expression), increased comprehension which build their love of reading;
*Students make substantial gains in comprehension, multi-syllablic (long words) decoding skills, fluency and reading speeds.
